This Model policy provides Colorado law enforcement agencies with best practices for the safe and lawful use of prone restraint techniques. It emphasizes minimizing risk, close monitoring, prompt medical aid, and de-escalation to protect the health and safety of officers and individuals in custody.

Many don’t realize that certification is only a portion of what POST is about. Sometimes we can’t wrap our own heads around everything we do! Another summer flew by as our team worked hard to provide agencies with the quality training and technical support they need. We had a great time mentoring an intern and getting new POSTies up to speed, and have learned much from this experience. In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which it falls, as National Police Week. Naturally, the main theme of this POST Dispatch issue is honoring the fallen law enforcement officers. Be sure to check page three for a list of memorial events!
